The Digital With Purpose Movement: A Year of Growth and Impact

The Digital With Purpose (DWP) Movement continues to catalyze collective action among corporations, grounded in four universal commitments outlined in the Digital With Purpose Performance Framework. This rigorous framework provides a structured approach for corporations to articulate their ambitions in climate impact and alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with measurable progress tracked annually.

Now in its third year, we are thrilled to celebrate substantial growth and dedication from participants, with significant advancements since our first submissions.

Highlights from the Year:

Diamond Status Achievements:
For the first time, we are proud to announce two members achieving “Diamond” status. InnoWave, a Portuguese SME specializing in digital innovation, retained its distinguished ranking from last year. Joining them is EDP, a leading multinational energy company renowned for its significant renewable operations.

SME Engagement Pilot Program:
This year, we piloted the framework with 40 SMEs through a partnership with IAPMEI, the Portuguese Agency for Competitiveness and Innovation. While only 33% of these companies engaged with the Framework and 8% completed their submissions, the program offered valuable insights. It revealed that many SMEs achieved certification levels between “Committed” and “Developing.”

These findings highlight the critical need for targeted support to help SMEs navigate sustainability challenges, particularly as they face growing compliance demands, market volatility, and the imperative to build resilience. Supporting SMEs will remain a top priority as we expand the program.

Global DWP Summit in Cascais:
Our third Global DWP Summit, held in Cascais, Portugal, from July 9-11, 2024, marked another milestone for the DWP community. The event attracted over 3,000 participants, with Cascais—a globally recognized sustainable city—providing an inspiring backdrop that aligned perfectly with DWP’s values.

In line with GeSI’s commitment to inclusivity, we waived entrance fees for students and teachers, emphasizing our mission to raise awareness and foster collective action for sustainability.
