The Global AI & Data Centres Working Group provides GeSI members and key partners with practical, near-term guidance on the sustainable development of AI-related digital infrastructure. The group focuses on the operational realities of data centres and AI infrastructure, addressing energy, water, circularity, siting, and governance challenges.

GAIN Is a flagship GeSI initiative designed to support Europe in shaping a clear, credible, and coordinated strategic direction on Artificial Intelligence. The project brings together global and European stakeholders to bridge the gap between AI ambition and real-world implementation, ensuring that Europe’s AI development strengthens digital sovereignty, competitiveness, and responsible innovation.

Launched in 2025, the Digital Education for Impact Initiative (DEFIA) brings together global education experts and GeSI members to address how digital transformation is reshaping education and lifelong learning. DEFIA provides a collaborative platform for members to engage with emerging thinking, build strategic linkages, and co-develop education solutions aligned with technological change and the SDGs.

GeSl is committed to enhancing sustainability across the digital sector by focusing on Scope3 emissions and ESG reporting. Our report on Scope 3 Guidance for Telecommunication Operators, developed with GSMA and ITU, provides a framework for addressing indirect emissions throughout the value chain.

Escalating concerns over water scarcity, quality, and inequality in distribution posing significant threats to economic development, social equity, and environmental stability. There's an urgent need to redefine water management strategies, The unpredictability fueled by climate change further intensifes these challenges, demanding a shift towards innovative and adaptable solutions.
