AI with Purpose, a GeSI-led initiative, is dedicated to driving forward the responsible development and application of artificial intelligence to tackle today’s most pressing global challenges. Through this collaborative space, we are committed to using AI as a tool for sustainable development, ethical governance, and inclusive growth.
Objectives:
At the core of the AI with Purpose Lab are three primary objectives:
1. Ethical AI Governance: We are committed to exploring, defining, and implementing global governance frameworks and ethical guidelines for AI. Our goal is to ensure that AI protects and respects humanity, prioritizes individual rights, and fosters trust in AI technologies. Through collaboration with global stakeholders, we aim to establish the standards that guide AI’s responsible evolution.
2. Sustainability and Digital Infrastructure: As AI’s role in our lives expands, so too does the need for sustainable digital infrastructure. We lead the way in applying AI to solve climate challenges and support the modernization of digital infrastructure. Our focus includes optimizing energy consumption, transitioning from outdated technologies like copper to more efficient alternatives, and embracing future-proof platforms. This ensures AI can advance without compromising our planet’s resources.
3. Inclusive AI Participation: Ensuring that the benefits of AI are accessible to all is critical. We work to empower less-developed regions by fostering education, skills training, and inclusive social programs. Our goal is to create opportunities for these countries to actively participate in the AI revolution, ensuring they are not left behind in the global digital transformation.
Our Work on Sustainable Digital Infrastructure
AI will increasingly drive demand for energy-intensive digital infrastructure. To address this, the AI with Purpose Lab is committed to promoting sustainable infrastructure practices such as:
- Transitioning from copper to fiber optics for improved energy efficiency and data handling.
- Modernizing network operations through advanced technologies like Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV).
- Evolving data center designs to optimize energy use and cooling systems for AI workloads.
By connecting with industry stakeholders, GeSI plays a key role in driving forward these sustainability efforts. We provide insights and guidance to support ICT companies in their journey towards a greener, more efficient digital infrastructure fit for an AI-driven future.
In May 2025, we held the first edition of the AI with Purpose. This a global platform for collaboration, innovation, and action. Through engaging discussions, cutting-edge presentations, and high-impact networking, we showcased how AI can build a smarter, more sustainable future while tackling the challenges that come with rapid technological advancement.
