Introducing Dr. Veerle Vandeweerd
We are honoured to welcome Dr. Veerle Vandeweerd as the Director of the Digital Education for Impact Alliance (DEFIA).
Dr. Vandeweerd is a globally respected leader in sustainable development policy, investment, and innovation — bringing over 40 years of experience spanning academia, multilateral institutions, government, and the private sector.
Her career includes senior leadership roles at UNDP and UNEP, where she spearheaded major global sustainability initiatives. She has also co-founded organisations focused on disruptive technologies, innovative finance, and green economic transitions.
For more than six years, Dr. Vandeweerd has supported GeSI’s work in digital education, helping shape our vision for how digital innovation and AI can transform learning systems and empower the next generation.
We are thrilled to have her lead DEFIA as we scale a global movement for inclusive, future-ready digital education.
