As the global climate agenda moves further into an implementation phase, the role of digital solutions in supporting effective, accountable and scalable climate action is becoming increasingly important. Against this backdrop, GeSI will engage at the UN Climate Change June Meetings (SB64), taking place in Bonn, Germany, from 8 to 18 June 2026.
Convened under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), SB64 brings together Parties, observers and a wide range of stakeholders at a pivotal point in the annual climate calendar. While COP conferences often attract the greatest public attention, the June meetings play a distinct and essential role: they help advance the technical and preparatory work that underpins progress later in the year and shapes the pathway toward COP31.
This process is carried forward through the work of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) and the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI), which together support the broader UNFCCC agenda by helping translate climate ambition into more practical and operational pathways.
For GeSI, this makes Bonn a particularly important moment for engagement. As climate priorities become more closely tied to questions of implementation, resilience and measurable progress, digital technologies are increasingly recognised as part of the enabling framework needed to support delivery. Trusted data, connected systems and enabling digital infrastructure can strengthen transparency, improve decision-making and help bridge the gap between policy ambition and practical action.
At the same time, the contribution of digital solutions to climate action is not only about technology deployment. It is also about building trust, supporting credible approaches to impact, and fostering cooperation across sectors and institutions. In this context, SB64 offers an important space for dialogue on how digital innovation can contribute to more coordinated, resilient and scalable climate pathways.
At SB64, GeSI will continue to reinforce the importance of linking digital transformation with climate implementation, including through its engagement with the United Nations Solutions Hub as a global platform accelerating digital solutions for urban decarbonization. This includes ensuring that the role of technology is considered not in isolation, but as part of a wider ecosystem of collaboration, accountability and practical delivery.
The June meetings also represent an important milestone on the road to COP31 later this year. They help prepare the ground for the discussions, priorities and implementation-oriented outcomes that will continue to shape the international climate process in the months ahead.
GeSI looks forward to engaging with partners and stakeholders in Bonn and to contributing to the broader conversation on how digital solutions can support climate goals in practical, responsible and scalable ways. At a time when implementation is becoming increasingly central to the global climate agenda, SB64 provides a timely opportunity to strengthen shared understanding around the role of technology, data and cooperation in building a more sustainable and resilient future.
