The Global Enabling Sustainability Initiative (GeSI) is pleased to announce the Buenos Aires edition of the Digital with Purpose Global Summit 2026, taking place on 25–26 August 2026 at Globant Tower in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Under the theme “Land, Water, and Data: Just Transition Starts in the South,” the Summit will bring the Digital with Purpose movement to Latin America to explore how digital innovation can support a more sustainable and inclusive transition across the region.
Latin America stands at the centre of several global sustainability questions. The region holds strategic natural resources, major biodiversity assets, growing clean energy potential, dynamic digital talent and some of the world’s most innovative technology companies. At the same time, it faces urgent decisions about how resources are governed, how digital infrastructure is deployed, and how value from new technologies is shared.
The Buenos Aires edition will position Latin America not only as a provider of natural resources, but as an architect of its own digital sustainability transition. The Summit will convene policymakers, private sector leaders, indigenous representatives, investors, technology innovators and civil society actors to examine how digital technologies can strengthen resource sovereignty, community-centred infrastructure and just transition strategies.
A key focus will be the relationship between land, water and data. Across mining, agriculture, fisheries, cities, energy systems and natural ecosystems, data and digital tools are increasingly shaping how resources are measured, managed and valued. The Summit will examine how AI, digital twins, satellite monitoring, blockchain traceability and smart infrastructure can help move beyond extractive models toward more integrated, transparent and inclusive value creation, while addressing the governance conditions needed to ensure this transformation serves people and places — including territorial consent, indigenous consultation, benefit-sharing mechanisms, community finance and environmental safeguards.
Across two days, the programme will move from diagnosis to implementation. The first day will focus on resource sovereignty, nature as digital infrastructure, community governance, data centres, energy and territorial consent. The second day will turn to scalable action, including Southern innovation, education and talent, smart cities, agriculture, oceans, sustainable finance and pilot project development. Throughout the programme, discussions will explore how responsible governance and digital innovation can support practical pathways for implementation.
The Summit will also highlight Latin America’s capacity for frugal innovation — solving complex problems under constraints and turning resourcefulness into competitive advantage. From clean energy optimisation and smart grids to fintech, digital platforms, agritech and urban solutions, the region offers important lessons for how digital innovation can be deployed in ways that are practical, scalable and aligned with local realities.
Implementation will be a central part of the Buenos Aires edition. In addition to high-level discussions, the Summit will include matchmaking and co-creation sessions designed to identify collaboration opportunities and potential pilot projects for 2026–2027. These sessions will bring together solution providers, corporates, governments and impact investors to explore opportunities across resource governance, oceans, energy, cities and finance.
As part of the broader Digital with Purpose Global Summit 2026 journey, the Buenos Aires edition will connect regional priorities with global collaboration. By bringing together land, water and data, GeSI aims to support a just transition shaped by Latin America’s assets, communities and ambitions — and to strengthen the role of digital innovation in building a more sustainable future.
