Released in 2014, the objectives of this report are to explore the impacts of climate change on the information and communication technology (ICT) sector and the potential for adaptation, including the need for new standards to be developed.
The report is intended to assist countries and companies in enhancing their resilience to the growing risks and seizing opportunities presented by climate change. It is also expected to promote knowledge exchange on this issue, inform the development and implementation of adaptation strategies within the ICT sector, and encourage further collaboration among ICT and climate change experts and practitioners at international, national, sectoral, and local levels.
The findings and recommended actions outlined in this report are relevant to a diverse range of stakeholders, including telecommunications operators, ICT manufacturers and service providers, national governments, other sector stakeholders, and international entities such as the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and other specialized UN agencies.
