In 2012, GeSI commissioned a comprehensive analysis of mobile phone chargers and small handheld devices to evaluate the correlation between their rated power and mechanical/electrical characteristics. The study assessed data from manufacturers and conducted direct measurements on various chargers, focusing on energy efficiency and environmental impact. The report is divided into two main sections: one analysing data from public sources on major mobile phone brands like Nokia, Apple, and Samsung, and the second involving physical and electrical measurements of selected chargers. The findings offer insights into the relationship between a charger’s energy efficiency, weight, volume, and supplied power, with implications for reducing the environmental footprint of these devices.
