European Green Digital Coalition (EGDC) Phase 1

The main aim of the European Green Digital Coalition (EGDC) is to maximise the sustainability benefits of digitalisation within the ICT sector, while supporting sustainability goals of other key sectors such as energy, transport, agriculture, and construction. The Coalition recognises the need for science–based methods to estimate the reduction and avoidance of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by specific ICT solutions across sectors. This will accelerate the sustainability and circular transitions of these sectors while contributing to an innovative, inclusive and resilient society.

Project Objectives:

The EGDC coalition is designed to produce actions and outcomes for industry and society. To achieve this it is focused on:

  • KPIs on investment and deployment of Digital Solutions (case studies) with proven net positive potential.
  • Methodology to calculate net climate impact of given solutions
  • Case Studies -  net environmental impact calculated. The case studies cover six different sectors (Energy, Transport, Construction/Buildings, Agriculture, Smart Cities, Manufacturing )
  • Deployment guidelines in each sector to provide guidance on the deployment of digital solutions in a given sector to maximise net positive impact (e.g. emission avoidance) and minimise negative impacts (solution footprint, rebound effects)

The Latest:

GeSI served as the Coordinator of the EGDC. Our role in the secretariat involved orchestrating the collaborative efforts of all partners to bring this impactful work to fruition. Following a 2-year process, the first phase has been completed and the resulting methodologies have been publicly released.
