Bell’s Dispatch Screening solution automatically runs remote diagnostics on connectivity services whenever a repair appointment is scheduled. The system identifies and resolves common issues like video, sync, or signal problems without any customer action. If the issue is fixed, customers are notified and can cancel the appointment, avoiding an unnecessary technician dispatch.
This reduces Bell’s Scope 1 or Scope 2 emissions, depending on the vehicle type, by cutting down on avoidable trips. Over a one-year assessment period covering 211,541 technician appointments in 2024 and 2025, the solution delivered a net carbon impact of -26.42 tCO₂e, with a range of -12.07 to -57.25 tCO₂e. This translates to a net impact of -0.125 kgCO₂e per technician appointment.
The Challenge: Unnecessary Dispatches Increase Costs and Emissions
Traditionally, technicians are dispatched to resolve connectivity issues without first checking if the problem can be fixed remotely. This leads to unnecessary vehicle trips, which contribute to emissions and operational costs.
The Solution: Proactive Diagnostics Before Dispatch
Dispatch Screening integrates automated diagnostics into the repair process. If an issue is resolved remotely, the customer is notified and can cancel the appointment. This avoids dispatching a technician, reducing fuel and electricity consumption.
The Impact: Measurable Emissions and Cost Reductions
The assessment showed a net carbon reduction of -26.42 tCO₂e over the year, with additional financial savings from reduced fuel and electricity use. Even if all cost savings were reinvested in typical business activities, the net impact would only decrease by about 2%.
Why It Matters: Digital Efficiency for Sustainability
Bell’s solution demonstrates how digital tools can reduce emissions by optimizing operations. For telecom operators, it shows that small process improvements can deliver significant sustainability benefits. The next step is scaling the solution further to maximize its impact.
