The Global Enabling Sustainability Initiative (GeSI) has officially joined UNESCO’s Global Education Coalition (GEC), a multi-stakeholder alliance launched to advance Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4): inclusive, equitable and quality education for all.
Through this membership, GeSI will contribute its global digital expertise, industry partnerships, and impact measurement capabilities to support the Coalition’s mission of transforming education systems and expanding access to learning—particularly for the most vulnerable communities.
About the Global Education Coalition
The Global Education Coalition, convened by UNESCO, brings together governments, UN agencies, the private sector, civil society, academia and philanthropic organizations to accelerate the digital transformation of education worldwide.
Since its launch, the Coalition has supported initiatives that:
- Expand access to digital learning for displaced and crisis-affected learners
- Strengthen teacher training and digital skills development
- Promote inclusive education for girls, learners with disabilities, and marginalized communities
- Advance system-wide digital education strategies aligned with equity and accessibility
Through large-scale partnerships, Coalition initiatives have reached millions of learners and educators across Africa, Europe, the Middle East and beyond, demonstrating the power of public–private collaboration in education.
GeSI’s Contribution to the Coalition
As a member of the Global Education Coalition, GeSI will contribute its digital innovation expertise, global partnerships and research capabilities to support progress toward SDG 4.
Within the Coalition, GeSI will focus on:
- Mobilising its network of 50+ multinational ICT companies and over 100 partner organisations to support private-sector engagement in digital education
- Supporting the scaling of digital and AI-enabled education solutions that expand access, improve quality and build future-ready skills
- Contributing methodologies and tools, including through the Digital with Purpose (DwP) Performance Framework, to assess and measure the positive impact of digital education initiatives
- Advancing research and thought leadership on digital sustainability, impact measurement and policy alignment
- Convening global experts through the Digital Education for Impact Alliance (DEFIA) to help identify systemic priorities for inclusive digital learning ecosystems
- Supporting the integration of teachers’ and learners’ perspectives into the design and deployment of digital education solutions
GeSI will also collaborate with UNESCO on events, knowledge-sharing and outreach activities to help scale best practices globally.
By joining the Global Education Coalition, GeSI strengthens its collaboration with UNESCO and Coalition partners to support inclusive, scalable and impact-driven digital education, contributing to global efforts to advance SDG 4.
