Bringing together global technology leaders, policymakers and international partners to accelerate climate action through digital innovation, sustainable AI and cross-sector collaboration.
The Global Enabling Sustainability Initiative (GeSI) will participate in the 31st United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP31), taking place from 9 to 20 November 2026 in Antalya, Türkiye, with an extensive programme of discussions, high-level dialogues and collaborative initiatives across multiple venues throughout the conference.
Building on its commitment to harnessing digital technologies for sustainable development, GeSI will convene representatives from industry, governments, international organisations, academia and civil society to explore how digital innovation and artificial intelligence can accelerate climate action, strengthen resilience and support the implementation of global sustainability commitments.
From Digital Innovation to Climate Implementation
As COP31 places renewed emphasis on translating climate ambitions into measurable action, GeSI’s participation will highlight the role of digital technologies as essential enablers of the green transition.
The programme will address several interconnected priorities:
- Sustainable AI and Digital Infrastructure: Exploring how the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence, data centres and digital infrastructure can be aligned with climate objectives, resource efficiency and planetary boundaries, including responsible management of energy, water and material consumption.
- Clean Energy, Electrification and Digitalisation: Examining how renewable energy, energy storage, intelligent grids and digital solutions can accelerate electrification, support growing electricity demand and enable the decarbonisation of industry and infrastructure.
- Climate Resilience and Adaptation: Demonstrating how AI, digital climate intelligence, early-warning systems and innovative infrastructure solutions can strengthen community resilience, particularly in climate-vulnerable regions, while supporting investment-ready adaptation projects.
- Circular Economy and Responsible Supply Chains: Advancing dialogue on critical raw materials, responsible sourcing, sustainable digital infrastructure, e-waste, circularity and the environmental footprint of emerging technologies.
- Smart and Sustainable Cities: Showcasing how digital technologies, connected infrastructure and international cooperation can support low-carbon urban development, resilient communities and scalable city-level climate solutions.
- Nature-Based Solutions and Biodiversity: Exploring how digital technologies can support ecosystem restoration, blue-carbon measurement, coastal resilience and sustainable local economies.
- Digital Education, Skills and Inclusion: Highlighting the importance of digital literacy, AI and cybersecurity skills, youth engagement and inclusive education in preparing communities and workforces for a sustainable future.
Strengthening International Cooperation and Measurable Impact
A central focus of GeSI’s engagement at COP31 will be connecting technological innovation with credible impact assessment, practical implementation and international cooperation.
Through initiatives including the European Green Digital Coalition (EGDC) and the United Nations Solutions Hub (UNSH), GeSI will highlight approaches to measuring the climate-enabling impact of digital solutions and connecting local sustainability challenges with scalable technologies, partnerships and investment opportunities.
GeSI’s programme will also provide a platform for international collaboration on responsible AI, sustainable infrastructure, climate adaptation and emerging approaches to environmental performance measurement.
Mobilising the Global Digital Ecosystem
Throughout COP31, GeSI will work alongside its members and international partners to facilitate knowledge exchange, showcase practical solutions, strengthen partnerships and identify opportunities for collective action.
By connecting the digital ecosystem with the priorities of the global climate agenda, GeSI aims to help accelerate the transition from ambition to implementation, ensuring that technological progress delivers measurable benefits for people, economies and the planet.
Further information on GeSI’s COP31 activities and participation opportunities will be announced in the coming weeks.
