Though countries are gradually easing quarantine and lockdown restrictions, COVID-19 continues to affect our daily lives, presenting new challenges. The ICT sector has kept the world connected, ensuring that families, friends, partners, colleagues live normally as possible, ensuring continuity.

Connectivity has allowed important information exchange between government authorities, businesses, health institutions and private citizens; all of this has contributed to tracking and predicting the movement of people amid COVID-19 and therefore critical for decision-making.

AT&T, the world's largest telecommunications company based in the United States, has taken measures to mitigate the effects of the pandemic and continues to provide its essential services to consumers, guaranteeing employees’ health, investing in e-Learning and supporting those working in the front-line.

First Responders are one of the key targets of AT&T’s work for the role they are playing in the frontlines benefitting from initiatives such as FirstNet, which offers free smartphones and capabilities such as FirstNet Push-to-Talk along with three months of free wireless FirstNet® network (built with AT&T in a PPP with the FirstNet Authority).

AT&T is also aware of the economic difficulties many families are going through this period and for this reason it has waived late payments and domestic post-paid wireless plan overage charges, and lifted costs for calls for military staff in order to remain connected with their own families.

AT&T is guaranteeing unlimited home internet for its consumers, 50% discount for AT&T World Connect Advantage package customers and it has increased the mobile hotspot data by 15GB and enlarged its streaming services.

AT&T has also started to facilitate the e-Learning through tools for schools and universities: to pursue this, AT&T has invested $10 million of dollars in the Distance Learning and Family Connections Fund, in collaboration with the Khan Academy (which received 1 million dollars of funds) and has offered 60 days free access to Caribu, a video-calling app that allows family activities such reading, drawing and playing with each other remotely.

To support education, a new application has also been introduced: NBA Maths Hoops, which is a comprehensive community programme that allows students to learn fundamental math skills through the game of basketball.

Finally, AT&T has invested in the well-being of its dedicated employees who continue to assist their customers 24/7, through bonuses for front-line workers and managers and extended paid leave to up to a total of 160 hours.
