The Global Enabling Sustainability Initiative (GeSI) was launched during the World Environment Day celebration in June 2001. The world in 2001 is very different from today’s world. The society has changed dramatically, and we have assisted to the raise of the 4th Industrial Revolution – Industry 4.0 driven by Digital technologies. Technology continues to offer both challenges and opportunities. As GeSI reflects on its 18 years of work, it can safely say it has positioned itself as a major thought-leader of building a sustainable world through responsible, ICT-enabled transformation. GeSI seeks to tackle major challenges of today such as: Climate Change, Resource Scarcity, Increasing Inequalities, Artificial Intelligence and Disruptive Technologies, Rights of Privacy and Security, Increasing Population and Unsustainable Consumption. by using the newest and most advanced ideas of digitalisation, proposed and supported by the industry leaders and its member companies.

Attaining the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is GeSI’s common objective and strategic direction for our future work.

GeSI continues to grow with a diverse and global membership base. By joining GeSI, members can expect cooperation from different sectors, companies and partners, who collaborate to form the future of sustainable ICT on global, regional and inter-sectoral levels.

For 18 years, GeSI has been looking to create a sustainable world through innovation within the ICT industry and the greater sustainability community. Having attracted the interest of some of the world’s biggest players, it continues to expand. If your organisation is interested in contributing to help tackle the world’s major challenges, join us.
