Climate Action 2011-2012
Article by Luis Neves, GeSI Chairman, on Transformative ICT Solutions
Tackling climate change is not only a huge challenge for the world – it is also a significant opportunity. The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector can make a huge contribution to low-carbon development through the deployment of innovative products and services which can provide the same or better service while reducing carbon emissions by 80 per cent or more. This tremendous opportunity needs to be better understood and supported by those who can make a difference. Only by applying transformative solutions across different business sectors can we hope to realise the proven potential for dramatic results in climate change mitigation and adaptation.

The e-Skills Manifesto
Europe is at a crossroads. It has a number of choices. The first is denial. Denial that its economic power and social model is under threat from emerging economies that are building huge armies of hungry, digital literate innovators who intend to ‘eat our lunch’ and more.
This manifesto exists to raise both awareness of the challenges we face and to provide actionable advice on what needs to be done.

Chairman of the Global e-SuStainability initiative (GeSi), Luis Neves, says of Climate Action:
"Modern high-speed communication networks are a crucial enabler for almost all industries, essential for leading the way to a low-carbon society. this is the firm belief of the global e-sustainability initiative (gesi), along with the conviction that sustainability is fundamental for long-term economic growth and competitiveness.
